A Brief Overview of the Sexism that Permeates ACE

Welcome, reader, to our first installment in a series that will focus on sexism within Accelerated Christian Education culture. To do this, we’ll examine some of the comic strips and content that appear in the Packets of Accelerated Christian Education (PACEs) and document the sexist disinformation that appears (and reappears) in the manifestos of Donald Howard, ACE’s author.

There is no end to the number of Exhibits I could put into this 3x series - ACE simply oozes disdain for women. Male superiority permeates everything, and women in history are only discussed when there is an opportunity for degradation. It’s a forgone conclusion that God designed men to dominate women.

PACE courses like the histories, sciences, Collectivism etc., all focus on men’s discoveries and exploits. Whether by birth or by marriage, women are first presented as the product or property of a man. They play submissive, supportive roles. They help men on their quest to do manly things.

Here’s a small example of women’s erasure from history in a PACE discussion on the life of Voltaire:

The next five years were consumed in an immoral liaison with the Marquise du Châtelet, a woman some years his senior. Upon the demise of Madam du Châtelet, in 1749, Voltaire accepted the longstanding invitation of Fredrick II of Prussia to take up residence in Berlin.

“Marquise” or “Madam” had a name (seriously, fuck Donald). Émilie le Tonnelier de Breteuil, marquise Du Châtelet-Lomont. You would never know that from this small mention “a woman” gets, but she was actually a well-known French philosopher and scientist. Émilie had a scientific paper published by the Academy of Sciences in 1744. Her relationship with Voltaire seems, from the outside, kind of cute; they were science partners as much as lovers, and she helped him avoid political persecution by hiding him at her château in Cirey [1, 2]. I don’t know much else about them and I honestly don’t care. My point is that she had a positive influence on philosophy, science, and Voltaire’s life that are all relevant to the conversation, but instead, Donald reduced her to a sexual object and curled his lip at her age. Flagrantly sexist.

It might not be obvious, but his comment on her age is dripping with disgust. If Donald was alive today, I can confidently say he would have a youtube channel where he talks wayyy too much about the peak fertility age of ‘females.’

Throughout the PACEs, comic strips appear at the top or bottom of various pages within each PACE. These comic strips are suppose to portray practical situations that demonstrate these character traits in action. As you can guess, men tend to demonstrate traits like “Persuasive” and “Decisive,” while women portray “Compassionate” and “Considerate” qualities.

In order to inject this poison into more benign courses (like English or Math) that couldn’t have otherwise been subverted by far-right talking points, Donald employed those 60 character traits he got from Bill Gothard (Ex. 12, Ex. 13, Ex. 14, Ex. 15, Ex. 18, Ex. 19, Ex. 68).

That being said, there is no room for non-binary or trans-persons in the ACE community. That topic isn’t even broached. Throughout this series, I will exclusively use he/her pronouns, or refer to character traits as ‘girl traits’ or ‘boy traits.’ Please know, that’s just me speaking the language of the oppressor, from the perspective of the oppressor, which don’t reflect my personal views.

God and his creations exist entirely in a teeny tiny box of Donald’s imagining, and I have to operate within that framework sometimes.

This is from a middle school English PACE. These students can’t even learn something as relatively innocent (if archaic) as cursive without being inundated with sexism. Even the example sentence the student has to draw out is just insane. You could not overestimate how many times a child gets exposed to this poison throughout a K-12 experience.

As Submissive is to women, so Respectful is to men:

Again, this is an English lesson. Children learning cursive are simultaneously being taught that brutal murder is the Biblical consequence for disrespecting men of God, and that adult women should be submissive to men. Not what I’d call a healthy dynamic.

Let’s recall what Donald and his pedophile pal, Bill Gothard, mean by Respectful:

In the context of a student teacher relationship, this is disturbing. In the context of marriage, this is some dystopian Handmaid’s Tale pigshit.

I have much more to share on this topic. I’m excited to finish writing installment 3b., which will give you some resources to help you debunk O.G. abortion myths. If you grew up in the South (or in the 80’s and 90’s in general) you probably absorbed a few of these myths without even remembering you did. That certainly applied to me.
